The Art of the Balancing Act

The Art of the Balancing Act

Juggling Life in My 30s

As someone in her late 30s juggling a full-time job, freelance gigs, graduate school, and personal aspirations, I often feel like I’m walking a tightrope without a net. It’s exhilarating, rewarding, and occasionally terrifying (heavy on the terrifying part). Sprinkle in a thick layer of studying for certifications like my CPA and the Enrolled Agent, and my days blur into an intricate dance of deadlines and determination. My eyes cross due to my stress levels being high and I often question myself, but I gained this tunnel vision to see only the end goal, and with that I find peace and persevere.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is the importance of prioritizing. Balancing a senior accounting role while pursuing my master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling isn’t easy, but having a clear vision keeps me going. My dream of becoming a financial therapist—helping minorities, women, and those often overlooked—is the light at the end of the tunnel. I blame my courage on creating a safe place for people like me for this added stress, however, I wouldn’t have it any other way. If it took me another decade to create this perfect and special place for those in need, I have the time.

Recently, I read a report from the Financial Therapy Association that highlighted how emotional spending is tied to unresolved traumas. It struck a chord with me because I’ve seen it firsthand, both in my work and personal life. Integrating this knowledge into my own journey reminds me why I’m pursuing this path, and why I share it with you.

Balancing isn’t about perfection; it’s about persistence. I am sure you know the ol’ saying “consistency is key.” That simple statement is ingrained in my head, and maybe yours too. So on the toughest days, I remind myself that every late-night study session, every sacrificed weekend, is a step closer to creating real change.
